Debbie Hannah Skinner is an artist, national speaker, and author who shares the wisdom of Scripture through the medium of watercolor, inspiring women to hope in Jesus Christ.
Her unique presentations combine biblical teaching with colorful, original paintings that come to life on stage. Through words and images, Debbie helps women:
- Soothe a busy mind by savoring Scripture.
- Express creativity in new ways – even if you’re not an artist.
- Apply biblical truth to strengthen your personal and professional life.
- Rekindle little-girl creativity with big-girl purpose.
For over twenty years, Debbie has shared biblical wisdom through painting, writing, and speaking with women’s groups across America. Creator of the Color Through The Bible devotional coloring book series, Volume 1: Soul Soothing Scriptures was released in 2016 followed by Volume 2: Fear Fighting Scriptures in 2017.
Her life long dream of creating a colorful, shareable, Scripture-based gift book came to life with the publication of Hope Is Always Near (2014). Debbie’s short stories are found in book series, such as God Allows U-Turns – A Woman’s Journey, Journeys of Joy, God Answers Mom’s Prayers, and The Groovy Chick’s Road Trip to Love.
In 2018, Debbie’s watercolor of the Texas Governor’s Mansion was selected for use on Governor Greg Abbott’s official stationary from the Mansion. Featured as the inaugural annual Christmas Day cover artist for the Amarillo Globe News in 2015, Debbie’s artwork has been reproduced for the Lawson Falle Voices of Faith greeting cards series, AT&T, and the Texas Governor’s Mansion Restoration Fund. She’s also been commissioned to paint for the Hoover Institute at Stanford University, the University of Texas, and First Baptist Church of Amarillo. Her original paintings are found in private collections across the United States, as well as in Turkey, Ireland, Belarus, China, Kenya, and Aruba.
Debbie has a teacher’s heart. She served as a professional educator for over 14 years and on the CLASSeminar faculty, training Christian communicators across the United States. Most recently, she serves on adjunct college faculty, teaching a dual credit Old and New Testament course. If she’s not teaching Bible this week, you can be pretty sure she’s teaching art- or both!
A native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, she is a graduate of the University of Alabama and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. As grateful as she is for the education received in these places, she recognizes that her greatest strength as a speaker comes not from her education or resume or experience, but from the power and grace of God at work in her life.
A wife and mom, Debbie resides in west Texas with her husband of over 38 years, Carey, a former minister now in full-time private practice counseling. They are blessed to be the parents of a wonderful daughter and son-in-law and two amazing grandchildren who call her “Mia.”
Debbie’s passions include teaching Bible studies (especially verse-by-verse), adding her favorite colors-purple and turquoise- into her paintings, bike riding (no mountains, please), drinking really good coffee, shopping at small off-the-beaten-path stores, music, and travel. (…And don’t forget Alabama football.)
Her life goal is to use her creative gifts to inspire others to use their creative gifts, all to the glory of God.
