This is a busy time of year in my studio. . . because of all the watercolor home portraits I’ve been asked to create for people to give as Christmas presents. What fun!
Here’s one from the great state of Texas I finished recently…
I just wish I could be with everybody on Christmas morning to see their faces when they open the gift!
What I love about creating home portraits is a lot deeper than making a pretty painting— it’s sharing in someone’s life story.
I have been so deeply blessed over the years by the stories people share with me about their special home or the reason they’re giving a home portrait as a gift. Whether it’s in celebration of a life achievement, cherishing a place where special life memories were made, or relishing the memory of a beloved family member, the stories I get to hear are poignant and powerful.
These little paintings have enabled me to share laughter, tears, and prayers with friends and strangers. Makes me feel so honored, blessed, and wanting to shout: Thank you, LORD, for the gift of this part of my life’s work!
The Pondering Palette: What part of your work makes you feel especially blessed? How have you shared in someone’s life story lately?
